Atlas of Social Determinants of Health

The Atlas of Social Determinants of Health in Spain compiles and displays the set of indicators of the "Social Determinants of Health". The Social Determinants of Health (SDH) are the circumstances in which people are born, grow, live, work and age, in short, they are the conditions in which daily life takes place, according to the WHO. The best or worst conditions of these determinants are those that define the level of health of the population; and the changes in these DSS, as a result of the economic and social changes that occur in our country, as well as the policies developed by both public institutions and the private sector in response to these changes, in turn cause changes in the health of the population over time. Likewise, it is the differences in the conditions of the DSS that mainly explain the inequalities in health between the Spanish Autonomous Communities.

This Atlas is developed within the framework of the 'Crisis and Health', 'Cohort - Real World Data' and 'Inequalities in Health and COVID-19' research subprograms of the CIBER for Epidemiology and Public Health (CIBERESP; https:// www.ciberesp.es/). Professionals from different institutions have participated in its preparation. The research group on "Social determinants, environment, citizenship and health" of the Andalusian School of Public Health, and the "Research Group on Statistics, Econometrics and Health (GRECS)" of the University of Girona, have selected, and statistically treated the indicators that make up this Atlas, as well as the design and execution of its graphs and maps.
